What an incredible summer it has been! Looking back on the past few months at Hotel Gruber, one word comes to mind above all else: sunshine, sunshine, and even more sunshine.

Summer 2026 truly spoiled us here in South Tyrol – and to be completely honest, it made us break a sweat more than a few times! ☀️

The warm weather arrived early in the season, with July and August bringing endless days of beautiful heat. Looking back, the regional weather service even called it a true "summer of extremes," featuring five major heatwaves. In Bozen, an impressive 27 days over 35 °C were recorded.

Up here in Sexten at around 1,300 meters above sea level, we certainly felt the summer heat too. While the mountain air in South Tyrol is always fresher and more pleasant than down in the valleys, even we found ourselves thinking on a few days: A cool little breeze wouldn't be so bad today! 😉

Hiking in the Sexten Dolomites: Sweating, Marveling & Arriving

Lace up your hiking boots, pack your backpack, and off you go! In the early morning hours, the mountain world around us was pure magic: crystal-clear air, bright blue skies, and the breathtaking panorama of the Sexten Dolomites.

Anyone who took on a summit trek or mountain hut hike around the Three Peaks (Drei Zinnen) or the Sexten Sundial during peak summer knows: it didn't come without a few drops of sweat! Water bottles emptied quickly, t-shirts got a bit damp, but that earned rest at an alpine hut felt all the more rewarding.

And that is exactly what we love about a holiday in the South Tyrolean mountains:

Allowing yourself to be tired: Pausing after a steep climb and letting your eyes wander across the horizon.

Taking a deep breath: Standing at the top, gazing at the peaks, and watching everyday worries fade away.

True deceleration: Exhausted, but deeply happy to connect with nature.

Summer in Sexten – Time for What Truly Matters

Summer at our hotel in Sexten means so much more than just good weather. It’s a very special feeling of living in the moment:

Stepping out onto the balcony before breakfast to watch the first rays of sunlight kiss the mountain peaks.

Returning "home" to our comfortable rooms with a big smile after a full day of hiking.

Gazing at the famous Sexten Sundial and soaking in the deep tranquility of our valley.

A holiday in the Dolomites doesn't need a hectic, action-packed itinerary. Sometimes the greatest luxury is simply having nothing you "must" do: A beautiful hike, delicious South Tyrolean cuisine, a shady spot in nature, a cold drink, and warm conversations with loved ones. Often, that’s all it takes.

As much as we loved summer with its long days and abundant sunshine, we are now looking forward to autumn in Sexten with all our hearts! 🍁

Travelers coming to South Tyrol in autumn aren't chasing intense summer heat. They are looking for peace, connection to nature, and time for themselves.

After a refreshing day out in the fresh mountain air, returning to the cozy atmosphere of the hotel is pure joy: A relaxing timeout, a fine glass of local South Tyrolean wine in the evening, a delicious dinner from our kitchen, and letting the day fade away gently.
